what is IBS

IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome is really an upsetting, shameful and uncomfortable condition that people can have through the course of their lives before knowing they have this. And among those millions of people who have IBS fear of having it diagnosed because they might discover something more serious than anything else. Most especially women suffer from IBS and this seems embarrassing for them. But for some who allowed their selves to be diagnosed, they feel they’ve made the right choice. You don’t have to worry about IBS for it doesn’t cause cancer and has no other complications done on your bowel. IBS, as well, is not the source of any life threatening illnesses or diseases. However, complications or much worse problems may arise if medical help is neglected.

The prevalent signs and symptoms are habitual diarrhea, bloating of the stomach and cramps, constipation and occasional stomach sickness. If some of these signs of IBS are felt, you should pay attention and seek for a medical help to have a proper diagnosis. No need to fear of anything because IBS is not actually a disease but a dysfunction of the bowel. This happens when the nerves and muscles in the bowel of an IBS sufferer becomes super sensitive. It causes cramps and spasms and in turn leads to pain, bloating and diarrhea. During the diagnosis, the doctor might perform several tests to ensure that there are no other symptoms that might have caused these signs of IBS. Some of these are Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. After the diagnosis and it’s confirmed as IBS, you will be then given pain relievers and relaxants to calm down the spasms in the gut and be advised to have a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

It is also important to avoid the triggers that will start of the IBS “attack” however there are various factors that trigger IBM for other people. Some can’t tolerate caffeine which is present on coffee, tea, chocolate, coke and other drinks. Caffeine is one of the most common triggers of IBS attacks. But for some they are not affected by caffeine, instead, orange juice, kiwi fruit and cow’s milk agitates the stomach. Aside from drinks, stress is also a contributor to IBS attacks. So keep yourself from being stressed or, worse, overstressed if you wouldn’t want your IBS to bring about.

IBS has no medical cure, only reliever. This disorder can be uncomfortable and irritating the persons who suffers from it. On the bright side, if the diet is changed and the lifestyle is healthy, IBS won’t be that much problem to manage. Once you’ve felt the symptoms mentioned above, go to your doctor and seek help. This action might spare you from having a much worse result in the future.
